God Of War: Chains of Olympus is a prequel, in which we're following Kratos in a series of events that take place before GOW1 on the PS2. The story takes us into Kratos' past .We'll learn more about his love, his daughter and his hatred of Zeus as we travel through heaven and hell, battle all sorts of titans, ghosts, monsters and even the Gods themselves in this Epic adventure through ancient Greece!
The developers have done an amazing job into delivering a great movement and combat system using the analog-pad and the buttons for those infamous action-combat sequences. Kratos walks, jumps, climbs and charges lthe way we're used to see him do it, and the PSP offers some slick controls for performing side dodges, forward tumbles, and even a slick swimming-system.
The combat system has been transitioned well from its PS2 counterpart; it has mostly been rooted with two buttons, but the more you power-up your weapons, the more combos you will unlock, and these become increasingly powerful and more fun to watch. As always, you have the rewarding combo- -counter system that tallies the consecutive hits; the more you hit,the more red orbs you'll get after the final kills.
The mind blowing visuals you will experience from the opening movie to the first epic boss fight will leave you stunned. The levels are considerably big, yet manageable, and the animation is crisp & fluid. The camera work is flawless, as it really has to be like this since the PSP doesn't actually have a second stick for cam. control!
Overall,COO is one amazing game, but Ready At Dawn has already proven they can get the best out of the PSP with their previous release Daxter. God of War : COO puts Daxter in 2nd place…by being the most technically impressive and best looking game currently available on the PSP.
In the end,Chains of Olympus is a reason enough to purchase a PSP. Sure, we've seen most quality PSP titles eventually make their way to the PS2, but you won't want to wait for a port…assuming there is one even in the works. I can guarantee you that anyone who picks up COO won't be able to put it down. It truly is one of the best games currently available for the system.
